There’s no end of local activities and attractions to explore and experience in the Adirondacks. Whether you’re looking to hike to remote mountaintops, or experience the local charm of Downtown Saranac Lake, the possibilities are endless.

Seasonal Adventures

Hiking

Challenge yourself to summit one of the six peaks in fall, when the foliage blazes a brilliant orange, yellow and red. Try stand-up paddle boarding in summer, enjoying the mountain region’s deep blue lake water.

The summer is marked with festivals, biking, summer theater, and celebrations for all ages, and for the opportunity to slice a canoe paddle through one of the area’s countless glass mirror lakes or experience the boating, kayaking, fishing, and swimming that have made this America’s favorite outdoor destination for decades.

Skiing

Come winter, ski the mountain range that hosted not one, but two, winter Olympic Games: the famous Whiteface. Saranac Lake features a wealth of winter recreation options, including family friendly alpine, nordic, and snowshoe trails. Here, each day brings new reasons to invite the outdoors into the agenda, its wonders so well pronounced.

Downtown Experiences

Art Gallery

For all its woodland adventure, the region also proudly boasts its own urbane aura. Saunter down Main Street in Saranac Lake and you'll discover arts studios and gallery spaces, Art Walks and street musicians, and a cycling array of shows at Pendragon Theater or BluSeed Studios.

Nearby, the Wild Center wows with its exhibit halls, animal encounters and the all-new treetop Wild Walk. And over at the Lake Placid Olympic Village, the history of a magnificent event is retraced, with an ongoing display filling the spaces with fun like Stars on Ice and ski jumping training.

Family in Snow

Saranac Lake Winter Carnival, held annually in February and catering to the quirky side, is a 10-day community festival filled with parades, sports competitions and a variety of entertainment options that are not to be missed. Whatever the whim, the ADK region is an explorer's paradise — its stunning diversity just steps from our front door.
