Hot Sara is Back in Lights

Hotel Saranac Hosting Sign Lighting Event on February 11 to Cap Winter Carnival’s Gala Parade

Hotel Saranac, Curio Collection by Hilton, will cap off the Saranac Lake Winter Carnival’s next to last day by bringing the hotel’s iconic sign back to life.

The sign lighting will follow the Hotel Saranac Gala Parade.

The Hotel Saranac sign has long been a Saranac Lake landmark, sitting high atop the six-story Main Street building. After falling into disrepair, the sign has been restored and brought back to its original brilliance as part of a complete renovation by Roedel Companies.

The sign is commonly referred to locally as “Hot Sara” in reference to the last remaining letters that stayed lit before it eventually went completely dark.

“People are so excited to see the progress of the hotel’s restoration and lighting this famous sign during the carnival is a great way to share another major step for the project,” says Hotel Saranac general manager Michael Salyers.

The Hotel Saranac Gala Parade on Saturday, Feb. 11 is one of the highlights of the Saranac Lake Winter Carnival and will be capped off this year by the sign lighting. The parade starts at noon and the sign lighting is scheduled for 5:30 p.m.

The Adirondack Carousel on Depot Street will host the official sign lighting event. In addition to carousel rides, there will be food and free hot chocolate being served starting at 4:30. The Adirondack Carousel is also extending its hours for the event to 6 p.m.

“The Adirondack Carousel is a great spot to view the sign lighting and wonderful place for families to gather and enjoy that moment when one of signature features of the town is restored,” Salyers said.
