HOTEL SARANAC BRINGS BACK NATIVE SON

David Pittman, a Graduate of Paul Smith’s College, Named Executive Chef

The iconic Hotel Saranac, Curio Collection by Hilton, of Saranac Lake, N.Y. has a rich history that dates back 90 years and David Pittman knows that history well. Now he’s back to add to it.

Pittman will be the first Executive Chef when the historic hotel re-opens this summer. He grew up in the nearby hamlet of Lake Clear, went to Saranac Lake High School and worked at Hotel Saranac while attending Paul Smith’s College.

"I see this as the greatest opportunity for me to give back to my hometown and community," Pittman says. "It makes it even more special being a Paul Smith's College Alumni (2008 CASM). Hotel Saranac is where an important chapter of my career began. It was one of my first opportunities as a cook and to think of coming back as the Executive Chef completes the circle."

Since graduating from PSC, Pittman has been honing his craft in the Adirondacks, most recently as Executive Sous Chef at Mirror Lake Inn in Lake Placid for the past four years. He has also worked at some of the top-rated inns and resorts in the country, including The Inn at Little Washington in Washington, Va. and The Lodge at Glendorn in Bradford, Pa.

Pittman’s responsibilities will include ensuring quality and efficiency of restaurant operations and maximizing productivity of the kitchen staff.

"We are excited that David is a locally grown talent and has been developing his skills for over 16 years with some of the area’s great hotels and restaurants," says Michael Salyers, General Manager of Hotel Saranac. "We look forward to showcasing his talents in Campfire Adirondack Grill and Bar, and in the banquets to be held in the Grand Ballroom."

Campfire Adirondack Grill and Bar features hyper-local comfort food, while the Grand Ballroom will host a variety of functions, including weddings, anniversaries and proms.

"I am excited to use our local farmers and show off the best of the Adirondacks," Pittman says.
